31 Questions for Your Prospective Preschool

Parents typically start looking at preschools nine months before their child will begin attending. Make appointments to visit several different schools. You should prepare to ask a lot of questions, but be aware of the way you ask them. You are interviewing the school, but make no mistake; they are interviewing you as well.

Questions For Each Prospective Preschool

• How does the school communicate with parents: newsletters, emails, phone calls?
• How is the building secured?
• What is the drop off and pick up policy?
• What is the sick child policy?
• If your child is hurt, what is their first aid procedure?
• What is the school’s educational philosophy?
• How long have the teachers been employed? If the teachers are happy, then the children are happy. If the children are happy, then you will be happy.
• What are the teachers’ backgrounds and credentials?
• What is the student-teacher ratio?
• What opportunities do you have to participate in the classroom? Children are so proud when their parents bring snacks, lead story time, or share a special talent.
